Dramatic single wing

For taking your night outfit to the next level try a dramatic wing! Depending on how dramatic you want to go, you can either do a single wing or a double wing. For this look, I'm going to show you how to do a dramatic single wing.

  1. Start off with "The Basics".
  2. Take a liquid or gel liner, and make a medium thick line from the inner corner of your eyelid to the outer corner.
  3. Next, start in the middle of the line you just made and make it a little thicker on top of that, angling upward as you go, and swoop out past your eye. Take it out to about the end of your eyebrow.
    1. (Your not going up to your eyebrow just out that far.)
  4. Put a little liner on your lower waterline.
  5. Two coats of black mascara
  6. Then top it off with any lipstick you want.

Eyebrow techniques

There are many different ways to control your unruly hair. From shaving to threading to plucking. Everyone wants to keep their hair under control, so I'm going to give you the 411 on the best ways how.

  1. Plucking- Probably one of the most normal, common used technique. You just need a good, sharp pair of tweezers, try to look for ones that are slanted so they grip your eyebrows well.
    1. First, place a very warm wash cloth over your eyebrows for a few seconds to loosen the pores, so the eyebrows slip right out.
    2. Then take your tweezers and a couple hairs at a time, maybe even one at a time, pluck out your eyebrow hairs.
  2. Waxing- Next we have waxing, probably another very common technique. Most people get their eyebrows waxed at a salon, but they make kits to do it yourself at home.
    1. If you are doing it yourself you just need some wax that you heat up, either by microwaving it in a microwaveable safe bowl or if you are using wax strips, then you just rub them in your hands to heat them up. After they are heated up, you just apply the wax where the hair you want to remove is, and apply a strip over it. Then press down on it, pull skin taught, and rip it off in one quick swift movement.
  3. Shaving- Shaving, the one technique that no one really thinks about doing. I mean us girls shave our legs, and underarms, and some other things that we don't want to disclose, but why don't we shave our eyebrows?
    1. You don't use a normal razor that you would shave your legs with, they have these skinny razors that are designed specifically for your eyebrows. You can get them at any local drug store like, The Dollar store, Walmart, or CVS.
    2. All you do is take the razor and shave around your eyebrows in the shape you want them.
    3. It doesn't last as long as waxing, but it is a nice in between waxing sessions, quick fix.
  4. Threading- This is probably the most uncommon of them all. Threading came from eastern countries like India and Persia. Threading is something done at beauty salons and is really inexpensive.
    1. What they do is take cotton thread and move it in a twisting motion around your eyebrows, so it pulls the hairs right out of your folicles.
These methods can be used for any unruly hair area on your body. But remember, some methods last longer then others. So if you are one who doesn't want to mess with your hair all the time I suggest waxing or threading. Shaving is something to do in between for quick touch ups. And plucking is something I do when there is that one or two stubborn hairs that grow inbetween waxings.

Beautifully Bronzed

Bronzer. It's something that some people love and use like it's their best friend, and other people shy away from it like it's a scary monster. Well, I'm going to give you some tips to show people that it's not scary and it can be there best friend, just don't go over the top either.

  1. Know your shade! If you've ever seen any of the jersey shows (jerseylicious, jersey shore, etc.) you have seen them go from pale white to super "brown" (more like orange) in a matter of seconds. How in the world does this happen? Bronzer. They take a bronzer that is ten times darker then their natural shade, and slap on a million layers all over their face. This is definitely not what you want. For bronzer you should know your natural shade and grab a bronzer that is maybe two times darker then your natural shade.
  2. Place it naturally! Back to the jersey shows, they pile their bronzer on all over their face to make them look dark. Well trust me, you do not want your bronzer placed all over your face, it definitely does not look natural. Place your bronzer on just the areas the sun hits your face, these areas would be the top of your cheek bones, the middle of your forehead, down your nose and on your chin.
  3. Just a layer will do! You don't need to pile on a million layers of bronzer to look super tan. Just take a powder brush and swipe two layers of bronzer on your cheeks, then a light layer or two on the rest of the areas the sun hits.

Purple Smokey Eye

I love this purple smokey eye. I was just experimenting one day before I went out with some friends, and I fell in love with it. I would wear this when I'm just going to the movies with my friends, or out to dinner. Something casual but still nice.

  1. Begin with "The Basics" as always.
  2. Then apply black eyeliner to lower waterline.
  3. Apply a purple liner to top lash line
    1. Make the upper lash line sort of thin but still thick enough to see it.
  4. Apply a light black shadow to the crease.
  5. Take a clean powder brush and blend those well so the black isn't harsh and you can't tell where it begins or ends. If you don't blend it, the black will drown the purple.
  6. Time for the purple. Take your purple shadow (I suggest a dark purple to go with the black) and with a tiny blush-like brush, brush it right above of the black that you put in your crease out just alittle past where you stopped the black. Fill some of the purple in at the corner so it connects to your top eyeliner and crease. Apply two or three coats of the purple until desired intensity is reached.
    1. Apply a thin amount underneath eyes too.
  7. Blend with a powder brush
  8. Then take a white shadow and highlight your brow bone with it. (Just swoop a light amount across the bone below your brows.)
  9. Curl lashes and apply mascara to upper and lower lashes.
  10. Apply chap stick or lip plumper
  11. Apply nude or pink lip gloss.
  12. Set with powder.

Liner/Eyeshadow

Using eyeliner as eyeshadow is a great way to save money and time. All you need is a colored eyeliner and some mascara.

  1. Start off with "The Basics"
  2. Grab any colored eyeliner you prefer (Here, I'm using a dark blue eyeliner.)
  3. Draw eyeliner across top lid as though you are doing a thick upper liner.
  4. Continue to draw the thick line until it covers your whole upper lid.
    • Don't draw the liner past your crease
  5. After you have your lid covered, wing out the liner from right at your lashes.
  6. Then fill in your lower water line with the same color.
  7. Under your water line, draw a medium thick line of eyeliner.
  8. Wing out the bottom into the top wing so you have one wing.
    • (After you finish with all your eyeliner, take a translucent powder or an eyeshadow of the same color and LIGHTLY dust it over the eyeliner so it doesn't smudge onto your top eyelid.
    • If you like the color, then I suggest the translucent powder. If you apply an eyeshadow of the same shade, it will change it a little. Most likely it will just make the color bolder. If you're willing to, experiment with adding on the colored eyeshadow.
  9. Afterward, curl your upper lashes. Hold the eyelash curler there for about five-ten seconds.
  10. Then put on a coat of mascara on upper and lower lashes.
  11. Apply a chap stick or lip plumper.
  12. Apply a nude colored lipstick or gloss.
  13. Set everything with powder.

Simply Gold

This is my basic, everyday, morning routine. It's simple to do and takes about ten minutes. I usually wear this everyday unless I'm going out at night or I have something like a spirit day going on at school.

  1. I always start off with "The Basics".
  2. Then I take a black eyeliner and apply it to my lower waterline and upper waterline.
  3. After I apply the eyeliner to my waterlines, I apply a thin black line to my upper eyelid as close to my lashes as possible.
  4. Then, I take the smudger on the end of my eyeliner and smudge my upper liner just slightly, so it isn't as rough and harsh.
  5. When I finish my eyeliner, I take a light gold eyeshadow and apply it to my whole entire eyelid
  6. Then, I take a darker gold eye shadow and apply it over the light eye shadow.
  7. I take my smudger after I finish my eyeshadow and smudge back over the eyeliner so I don't have any eye shadow on it.
  8. I take my eye lash curler and curl my eyelashes for about ten seconds each set.
  9. And I apply a coat of mascara to top and bottom lashes.
  10. Then I apply soft lips chap stick and a pink lip tint.
  11. Then set with powder and I'm on my way.

Suggestions

I recently posted a blog called "The Basics" where I talked about moisturizers, face washes, etc. I am no expert, but I've been doing this for years, and it's been working for me. So I felt I should give some suggestions on products (Don't expect them to work for you just because I suggest them, though. Everyone's face is different; experiment till you find what works for your skin type.)

  1. Face wash: My pick is Clean and Clear's Morning Burst. Since my face is on the oily side, I use the shine control facial scrub (It's the light green one with yellow and blue beads), (Watch the labels because there is a scrub and a cleanser scrubs exfoliate while cleansers don't), but I have also used their dark blue and light blue scrubs, they work, too.
  2. Moisturizers:  Again, Clean and Clear. I prefer the dual action oil free moisturizer. It keeps my face from drying out ,whether from the harsh winters or the sun and chlorine in the summer. When I need extra protection, I sometimes use the Sunscreen Clean and Clear moisturizer, but it's not my favorite because you can feel the sunscreen in it, and it's sort of rough.
  3. Green Stick Concealers: Green stick concealers are not something you see in everyone's makeup bag, but they are very helpful, and I suggest every girl have one! They look like lipstick, but they are green and can be found in the foundation section. I use cover girls cover green (green stick smooth concealor.)
  4. Corrector: For a corrector I like mary kays corrector. It comes in a little black tube. All you do is squeeze the tube and dab the dot that comes out on any problem area. It covers amazingly well and doesn't make your face look cakey.
  5. Liquid Foundation: For liquid foundation I have tried probably around ten different kinds in the past three years. In the end I have found that loreal's true match super blendable foundation has worked the best for me. It is super light, goes on super even, and is easy to apply.
  6. Powder Foundation: I have gone through tons of powder foundations too and recently I have found one that I have fallen head over heels for. It is Neutrogena mineral sheers loose powder. It applys so light and airy that you don't even feel it and yet it gives the best coverage I've ever had.
Prices:
face wash- around $6
moisturizer- around $7
green stick- around $7
corrector- between $10-15
liquid foundation- around $11
powder foundation- around $11

Red Lipstick

I enjoy red lipstick so much. It looks so elegant and sophisticated.  Red lipstick is great for an evening out, especially when you are dressing up.
  1. Start off with the basics. (If you have not read my basics posts, I suggest reading that first.)
  2. Take eyeliner (whatever color you prefer, I used black eyeliner) and put a thin line across top eyelid, as close to the lashes as possible.
    • Smudge your eyeliner slightly so it doesn't look as harsh. ( I use an eyeliner pencil with a smudger on the end, but you can use a Q-tip-- be sure to smudge it lightly, or the Q-tip will rub it off.)
  3. Use white liner on your lower waterline
    • (I didn't have white liner, so I substituted white eyeshadow; it works just as well. You will need to apply a little more shadow to get the same effect.)
  4. Apply a skin colored eyeshadow to your eyelids and below your eyes
    •  (It covers up any unevenness in skin tone and helps cover dark veins.)
  5. Curl eyelashes
  6. Apply one thick coat of mascara
    • (Again, it can be any color you'd like, but I would suggest it be the same color as your eyeliner.)
  7. Smooth on lip plumper
    • (If you don't have lip plumper, use a Chapstick.)
  8.  Two thick coats of red lipstick
    •  (Any shade of red lipstick you'd like.)
  9. Take the sponge you used to do your foundation and dab it along the edge of your lips. (Don't apply any more foundation to it; whatever was left on after your face will work.)
    • (Dabbing the foundation gives you extra coverage around your lips so your skin doesn't look red; otherwise your lipstick will look smeared.)
  10. With a fluffy powder brush, brush on a layer of powdered foundation to set your liquid foundation and give you a little extra coverage.
    • (If you do this too soon, before your liquid is dry, it will cake up and look bad.)
  11. You're ready for a night out on the town!

The Basics

Every look should begin with the basics. No matter what makeup look you're doing, you should always start your face off with these steps:

  1. Clean Face- Always start off with a clean, fresh palette. You should wash your face morning and night to get rid of any dirt or unwanted oils.
  2. Apply a moisturizer evenly to your face.
    • Pump a dab or two onto your fingers and rub your fingers together for a second. Then smooth the moisturizer onto your face.
  3. Dab a green stick concealer on red areas.
    • Use finger to smooth out the green so it blends slightly and is smooth to prevent foundation from clumping. You don't want to rub off the green, so just dab it slightly with your finger .
  4. Put a dot of skin colored corrector over any problem areas. (Pimples, redness, under eye circles, etc.)
    • Dab with finger until blended and smoothed out.
  5. Apply liquid foundation with sponge over entire face.
    • For additional coverage, dab your sponge on the areas to which you applied the green stick and corrector.
  6. After you have done the rest of your makeup (eyeliner, lipstick, etc.) apply a layer of powder foundation over your entire face to set your liquid foundation, to smooth out uneven areas and provide extra coverage.
